There seems to be a lot of 3's this year, and from the looks of it, next year might be the same way. It was announced
yesterday that USB 3.0 will be released first half of next year. But the article also notes that their is a lag of when
a specification is released to when products start using it so we shouldn't expect anything until 2009 or 2010. The new
USB standard will use fiber optics along with the traditional copper connections. USB 2.0 allows for max transfer rates of
480 Mbps and the new standard will increase the speed by 10 times that making the max transfer at 4.8 Gbps. They are saying that
the new standard will also be more energy efficient and will be backwards compatible with previous USB. This brings flash
drives that much closer to where I want them to be at. Truth be told, I hate Blue-Ray and HD-DVD, I would rather have
flash be cheaper and have that be the new media storage.
There is actually a new type of disc being added to the format war that was between HD-DVD and Blue-Ray, it's called
HD VMD. For more information, check out the Slashdot article about it.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii has officially announced that it will have four player online battles. It's to bad both the
DS and the Wii came to the market without any online enabled games, so it is a breath of fresh air that an excellent title
such as Smash Bros. will have online multiplayer. You will be able to play against friends or random people. There is no
track record for the random matches which has ups and downs. Hopefully it will prevent people from dropping out of a
fight they are about to lose in hopes they wont drop a level or have a bad record.
And as I promised last post, there is a new Windows Tip that can found found here
and it can be found in a permanent home inside of the Windows page.
9/18/2007 Streetlight Manifesto
Don't ask me how, but one of my favorite song writer/singer some how created a new band, made two albums, and then I
saw them live when they came to Denver with Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and Against All Authority. The singers name is
Tomas Kalnoky and was the original singer of the incredible ska band Catch-22 with their first CD release of Keasbey Nights.
Unfortunately he left the band and they didn't keep the same sound. Tomas has gone on to make a new band called Streetlight
Manifesto that has two albums, Everything Goes Numb and a re-release of Keasbey Nights. Everything Goes Numb has a Keasbey
Nights feel to it, with some songs even having similar theme. Needless to say, the band has been pretty much all I have been
listening to for the past couple of weeks. If you don't have a copy of the original Keasbey Nights, I highly recommend
picking up this copy, but unless you are a huge fan of the original and wanting a little twist to the music, they are the
same songs with little additions here and there. If you want a sample, you can listen to one of their songs,
Everything Went Numb, over at Pure Volume or
download Everything Went Numb along with The Saddest Song from Victory Records
website. Keep an eye out for their new CD that is due to hit stores November 13th.
I am also working on a new Windows Vista tip, this one isn't as techy, but it is a nice tool, so look for that in the next
post.
9/17/2007 Halo 3, Guitar Hero III
I have a couple of videos to show you, but first, check out
why I have been to busy to post lately. I have been working extremely hard on that project along with a couple of other
things for work, but in the end, I am quite proud of the work I did and learned a lot about ASP.NET.
If you haven't looked at last weeks
Bungie Weekly Update, you a video of some people driving around the real life Warthog that was built and the video below.
Maybe this will cheer you up about all the waiting you have been doing till Halo's release.
Now this next piece is for all the Guitar Hero fans out there. If you own a copy of Guitar Hero II, I am sure you have tried
the song Jordan expert and maybe one or two of you have completed the song. Well Guitar Hero III has a song that is being
called "The New Jordan." The actual name of the song is Through the Fire and Flames by Dragon Force and from the looks of it,
it may be even harder than Jordan. There are two videos below, the first one is the song from GH III, unfortunately they cut
out the intense solo, so below that is the music video so you can ponder how on earth it will be possible to beat it.
All I know is your arms will be tired by the end of the song. Thanks to my buddy Shike16 for pointing me to these.
