11/24-28/2006 Not My Fault

If you are one of the heavy followers of this site that I see in my stats all the time, then you probably have noticed some down time here at Punkster812.tk. Well I am happy to say that this was not my fault, and actually, the real website is still down. The web hosting company I am with recently did some huge upgrades, one of them being nameservers. Well I dind't need much space or bandwidth for my site senses it's pretty much all HTML/PHP so I have a small account which doens't allow me to change DNS settings. There for when they did the final switch, my site went down. I called them a couple days ago and they said they made some changes and it should have fixed it yesterday. Well I checked it this morning before I left for work, still down. Luckly, I have an entire back up of my site as well as a Linux server with Apache and PHP installed. So if speeds are a little slow, it's because it's coming from my house and I am sorta a bandwidth hog.

Many people out there do not have a XP Media Center Edition computer and so you could never stream video to your XBox 360. And with the recent update, you can still only stream special .WMV's. Well now thanks to TVersity you can stream pretty much any video file to your XBox 360; including the popular amoung download site, AVI. If you have a complex network with shares, it can be sorta difficult to set up, but there is pretty good walk through guides to help you through it. Plus this program isn't just for XBox 360, actually that wasn't even the purpose of the program. If you do anything with videos, you might want to check out the program. Because this program can stream to many devices, pretty much anything UPnP related, including D-Link's DSM-320RD.

11/20/2006 Wii Wii Wii, All The Way Home

As I mentioned, Sunday was the release of the Nintendo Wii, and I was one of the thousands here in Denver that waited in line for the new Nintendo in 32 degree Fahrenheit weather for about seven hours. But my wait was nothing compared to the people who got a PS3, and even some of the Wii waiters were in line for a day and a half. But I have to say, it was worth it.

There was something I wanted to post on my last one, but I forgot all about it last time. The thing that I always thought would be awesome but thought impossible, is coming. What is this thing that I think would revolutionize the way we do just about everything? Wireless power. Imagine sitting there in your chair with wireless Internet and wireless power. No cables, no cords. Just convenience. Don't think it's possible? Well it's true, it is being designed by people over at MIT. Check out this article on Slashdot or you can also check out the news article that the news originated. And until it becomes a reality, sit back and wish.

Many, probably actually the majority, of people who waited for a PS3 were those who wanted to turn around, sell it on EBay for way more than they bought (which I am sure pissed Sony off sense they are selling at a loss). Some of the sells were huge, the largest official one I heard from a news channel was for $8,000, but most averaging around $2,000. I checked today for what the Wii was going for, and unfortunately it doesn't look like Wii sellers are being as successful with profits as most aren't even over twice the normal cost with most of them going for $400. That has to be due to the fact that Nintendo had many more consoles in stores compared to PS3, that is also probably why no one got shot for their Wii. Unlike the PS3 where there was a story of someone getting shot and a few of people being held up after walking out with their PS3.

11/15/2006 Halo 3 News

Well the news came sooner than I expected from Microsoft. I will do a quick some up of what is happening. On December 4th, there will be a Halo 3 comercial done in CG during Monday Night Football and will be on the Live Marketplace shortly after. Then sometime next Spring, Bungie will release new Halo 2 maps... but only for XBox 360 users and Microsoft Studios will have a price on them, yet to be determined. Sometime before Halo 3 is shipped, probably around Spring, there will be a public demo/beta of Halo 3 multiplayer that will be used to give us a taste of what's to come and to do some testing on Bungie's end. And for you PC gamers who don't own an XBox, you can finally play Halo 2 (on a Vista computer) early next year which will have a custom level editor. If you are craving to see some of in game quality of Halo 3, check out the screen shot at the bottom of the page.

11/13/2006 HD-DVD Hacked

Well the XBox 360's add on HD-DVD has only been out for a couple of days and already has it been torn apart and drivers written for it to play movies back on Windows XP. You can check out all the insides of the new toy plus grab the drivers from here.

And if you have been keeping up with PS3 news and how much they have been trouble with Blue Ray then it's no suprise that there will be a shortage on launch date. EB Games/Gamestop have already announced that there will be customers who pre-ordered that will not be receiving them and they are even having their employees wait until second shipment because of how many they won't be receiving.

As for me, I will be waiting at some store waiting for the Wii like a little kid. Just a reminder to everyone that wants to pick up a Wii of their own, it comes out this Sunday. I am just reminding everyone because I know it snuck up on me.

Bungie has some important information coming up next week according to their Weekly What's Update. Here is the quote directly from Frankie:

If you thought there was a lot of Halo information last week, wait ‘til next week. A bunch of stuff is going down to celebrate the 5th anniversary of a little game we like to call Halo. In November 2001, Halo launched alongside the Xbox console, and the rest is history. Next year, Halo 3 will conclude the story arc begun all those years ago and next week, we’ll take a long lingering look at the series to date. There will also be some pretty BIG surprises and maybe announcements. Who can say?

Also check out 1up.com's write up on the new Halo 3 multiplayer maps.

11/9/2006 Thank You Everyone

I would like to thank everyone who called, e-mailed, or wished me happy birthday on myspace. And thank you everyone at my work for the surprise today, the cake was awesome. I had a wonderful birthday and it was nice to hear from everyone.

So do to a shipping error that happened, I didn't get my copy of Gears of War untill tonight, and from what I have played, it seems like it's going to be an awesome game. What I have noticed so far is that it sure isn't for young ones.

I will be in Casper for the next couple of days, so I wouldn't really expect an update till at least Sunday night, unless something REALLY big happens, or I get some free time and hop on my Dad's computer. So to keep you entertained for the next couple of days, here are some links:

11/7/2006 Wii Online Pre-Orders

Gears of Wars is in EB Games and Gamestop stores tomorrow, and will be in all other stores November 12th.

Here is the information on the online pre-order information for EB Games/Gamestop:

Wii Bundle

And so here Wii are. Less than two weeks and counting until the most innovative product the video game industry has seen hits the streets.

This Thursday evening (CST), November 9, your opportunity to get in on the excitement arrives when the Wii Bundle becomes available for purchase online at GameStop.com. You'll get the best games, accessories and more in one convenient package delivered right to your door - all for under $699 plus tax and handling.

Quantities are extremely limited and there will be a limit of 1 Wii bundle per household, limited to US delivery only. Ordering a bundle does not guarantee shipment at launch and orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-serve basis. The bundle will be removed from the site as soon as we have reached our expected quota.

I am not sure if I will pre-order online sense I am not guaranteed one on launch, and I am impatient when it comes to my video games. But at the same time I am sure you will save a little bit of money if you do one of their bundles with the games and all.

In music, the CD that I was most surprised with this year and have just recently fallin in love with was by a band called The Lawrence Arms. This band has something to them that just rocks, I haven't enjoyed a new CD like this for over a year. If you are interested in taking a look at them, check out their web site thelawrencearms.net or you can check out their music at myspace.com/thelawrencearms. And your last option for checking them out is just down below, their music video for The Devil's Takin' Names. If you decide to pick up their CD, might I suggest the best place for Punk Rock/Ska, Interpunk.com.

11/5/2006 Wii or the Revolution?

Well last night thanks to my girlfriend I was able to play the Nintendo Wii at the Nintendo Fusion Tour. So is it the next big thing? Is it the console that will revolutionize the gaming industry?

Well that is solely dependent on the software developers. I got the to play Excite Truck last night and it only further insured me that I will love the upcoming console from Nintendo, and so will many others. You can tell that Nintendo is aiming to a large audience with their next console because there is something there for everyone. The controls are simple but fun. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but you are having so much fun that you don't even notice unlike some of the other consoles which have nine buttons on them making them a little cumbersome to get used to. Every single person that played the console, no matter if they were playing Excite Truck or Wii Sports, left with a big smile on their faces.

Oh... I guess there was music at this thing too. They started the show out with a band called The Sleeping, a band I had never heard of before, but they were fairly good. Next was the Plain White T's who played a good set playing some old, some new. They were followed by Emery which once again I hadn't really heard of but they played a pretty good set and really got into it which made it fun. Relient K followed with a hilarious intro with a Mario theme (fits perfect with the Nintendo Fusion). Hawthorne Heights was the headliner for the night, and I was kinda disappointed, only because most of their songs sounded the same. All in all though, it was a great night filled with great music and the Nintendo Wii.

11/3/2006 I Am Off

I am writing a quick post because here in under twenty minutes, I am heading off to Cheyenne for the battle of the bands (10/26/2006 post if you didn't see it).

XBox 360 news, F.E.A.R. was released in stores on the 1st, and Gears of War is being pre-released on November 7th if you get it at EBGames and Gamestop, so go make a reservation because this game will be selling fast. Also there was some special news involving the Halo 3. They are releasing what they are calling the Legendary Edition. This special edition will be packaged in a Spartan Helmet and packed with four DVD's including one with all the CG movies from the games in HD, one on the making of the Halo 3, one on the things made around Halo such as Red Vs Blue, and the last one will be the actual Halo 3 game. On one of the discs will be a taste of the movie, my guess will be the one with Red Vs Blue and other things that evolved from the game. In magazines that are released this month, you will be able to get a sneak peak at three new levels that they have created that are similar to Zanzibar, Blood Gulch, and Frost Bite. There are also two new weapons called the Spartan Lazer, which is a anti-vehicle weapon, and a nail gernade, which can stick to walls and when it blows up sprayes nails. The new, or not so new, vehicle is the Mongoose which was in the origional Halo, then removed, then suppose to be in Halo 2 but never made it, is officially in this game and is a two person vehicle with no mounted gun, used for quick speeds. The second person on the vehicle can shoot though.

Well I need to get going otherwise I will be late, I will be going to the Nintendo Fusion Tour tomorrow, so if I get to play the Wii, I will have to do a special post late tomorrow night to let you know how it is.
