All Wii Need to Know, the Date
Wii Launch Date and Price
Nintendo has finally given a release date and price
of November 19th at a cost of $249.99. Sure this is more than their previous console,
the Gamecube, but there is also a few hidden surprises.
We will start with the most important part of a gaming
console, the games. Nintendo has officially announced that all first party games will
be at the price point of $49.99. This has been predicted for a while but untill now it
has all been speculation. This does not include 3rd party games such as things to come
from Ubisoft, or EA Games as 3rd party developers choose the costs of their games. Nintendo
said they will over more than 25 unique games by the end of this year. The Virtual Console
games will include NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64 games for $5, $8, and $10, respectively.
I suppose the Virtual Arcade Games will be similar to the regular game meaning everything
released by Sega or another 3rd party will be priced by the third party. By the end of the
year, they plan on having 30 games released onto the Virtual Console including games like
Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong.
The next most important thing here is the hardware. Just what
will you get for the price of $249.99? The Wii, one Wii remote, one nunchuck attachment, AC
adapter (not sure why they had to list that), audio/video cable (this seems like it should be given too),
a sensor bar, sensor bar stand, Wii console stand, and two batteries. The prices of additional
hardware would be $39.99 for a Wii remote, $19.99 for a nunchuck, and the classic controller for
most likely $19.99 as well.
But that's not all that will be packeged into the Wii's box. That's right, along with the hardware
you will receive a copy of Wii Sports. This is only for the U.S. and Europe, Japan does not get a game
with the Wii. But the news is getting better. Wii Sports now comes with two new sports. The included
games will be tennis, baseball, golf, and the new games boxing and bowling.
Finally Nintendo showed off some of the consoles interface functionality. You can create
your own Avatar with Mii, edit photos with the photo channel, check the weather, browse,
the Internet with Opera, find out the latest news around the world, download content, and
a message board to leave a message to a family member or to a friend if connected to the
Internet.

Unfortunatly sense all these things are brand new, there isn't a whole lot of
information about them known to me at this time, or a whole lot of images.
The only place I can find where you can see a demo of some of these new things,
called Channels (Mii Channel, News Channel, Photo Channel, Internet Channel, etc.)
You can watch these videos
which is part of this almost Power Point presentation, unfortunatly everything is
in Japanese, but the videos (starting on the page I linked you to) will show you how
you will interact with the photo editor as well as the main interface. If you want
English information about the channels, visit here
but there isn't any movie, just some pictures.
