The DS on Atkins
Sneak Peak the the DS Lite

Nintendo seems to enjoy making things as tiny as possible. They started this trend way back with the NES when they had a big gray box and then they released a tiny version that didn't even have a flip top. Then with the GameBoy they had a thing larger than a brick and just as heavy. They then released the GameBoy Pocket which could, well, fit in your pocket. With their GBA, they made a GBA SP with a flip screen, follwed again with a GBA Micro that is just large enough to have a game in it. Now Nintendo is doing it again but this time with the Nintendo DS.

The Nintendo DS Lite is no different as far as capabilities than the origional Nintendo DS but it is smaller. Is it as drastic of a change as the GBA to the GBA Micro? Not even. But there is a noticable difference between the two as far as size, color, and design.

The largest between the two would be the screens. They have added four different brightness settings allowing you to eluminate the back screen to an almost blinding settings. Another change that they have made is the location of the microphone. Instead of down close to the left corner, it is now moved up to inbetween the two screens where it will make talking a little easier.

I personally will not being the new handheld from Nintendo simply due to the fact that I already have a Nintendo DS and do not want to spend money. But if you have to have the latest and greatest, need a smaller/lighter DS, want better lighting, or do not have a Nintendo DS, then you will want to look into the Nintendo DS Lite when it is finally released here in the United States.
